Self Portrait In 104 Stories
As I approached my 50th birthday, with no projects on the go, exhibitions to prepare for, or deadlines looming, I found myself in a state of creative lethargy. I figured that the answer to re-igniting my passion might be to create a challenge for myself. And the best way to go forward, could be to look back.
With that in mind I decided to make 100 small paintings. New pictures that re-examined (and possibly re-interpreted) subjects I had tackled in the past, and addressed ideas that I had considered but never actually executed. I also decided to include anything interesting that might pop into my head.
I have completed the original task. But through the course of that process I managed to amass notes and sketches for between 30 and 40 additional images. This project is clearly more organic than initially anticipated and as such I have no choice but to allow it to dictate when it will finally be finished.
While each of these pieces exists as a stand alone painting, the idea is to see them simply as components of the larger whole. And because they are intended to be seen together, none are currently available for individual sale. If there is a specific image you find interesting please feel free to get in touch. We'll see what can be arranged
